Building A Dose Glass Collection...

Some people pick a certain topic to collect, such as a particular city, state or region of the country. For example, one could collect literally hundreds of different dose glasses advertising druggists from the state of Pennsylvania alone. Some collectors want to find one dose glass from each state in the US, even though this proves to be a very daunting challenge. Some collectors want dose glasses that advertise products such as patent medicines, cures, bitters, remedies, etc. Collectors of druggist or chemist bottles seek dose glasses as "go-withs" for their collections. My personal collection consists of a wide variety of dose glasses, but my main interest is those with "pictures" or ornamental embossing (such as logos, monogram initials, mortar and pestles, birds, fancy script lettering, etc). I have also taken up the challenge of trying to find at least one glass from every state in the US. You can track my progress on the "One Collector's Quest" tab under the "US Collecting" menu above. I would like to find more examples from my home state of Georgia. I have only a few. One being the 'Granddaddy' of all GA dose glasses -- Jacobs Pharmacy (read more about its Coca-Cola connection under newsletter articles). Another one is a damaged glass dose spoon embossed FROM / EMERALD CITY / DRUG STORE / DUBLIN, GA. I have a few from the town where I was born and raised, Savannah, GA. Some day, I hope to find a dose glass from my adopted hometown of Brunswick, GA (but don't know if one even exsists from here). By the way, many of the dose glasses that you see pictured on this site including some of those in the photo album do not belong to me. Various kind people have shared their pictures and allowed me to use them on this site. If you have any of glasses that you would like to sell or trade, please contact me. My contact information can be found under the "My Collection" in the menu above.  Also, check the SELL/TRADE page often, as my list of traders is always changing.  Thanks, Tracy Gerken (1gerken@bellsouth.net
