Advertising Medicine Glasses from the Canadian Provences

OUR NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH...

Druggists in Canada also included dose glasses in their advertising campaigns. How possible would it be to collect a glass from each of the 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada? Some Canadian examples that have been identified are listed here by province, but by no means is this a comprehensive listing. A few are pictured below. Recently (8/31/15), I posted the following question in the new Dose Glass Collectors group on Facebook: "Have you ever seen a dose glass from Newfoundland/Labrador? I've seen one from every other province except that one. Then what about the Territories? I've never heard of any dose glasses from any of the Territories."

I received this very helpful response from a well informed collector by the name of Glen C. Phillips: "There's a McMurdo, St. John's, Newfoundland dose glass. As to Canada's territories, I have never seen or heard of one from Yukon Territory, though Dawson City and Whitehorse would be the only places in the Yukon with any appreciable population size in any dose-glass-style era to support drugstores which might have gone in for dose glass. Nunavut was formed in 1999, so strike it off the list. As to the Northwest Territories, it's very thin and relatively recent permanent white population greatly diminishes chances. In fact, the only two notable towns of Hay River and Norman Wells are very small, and I'm not sure if either has ever had a drugstore, though if they did, the timing would make for the possibility of acid-etched or ACL dose glasses."

So, provided that great information, we can conclude that the realization of a 10 province Canadian collection is a definite possibility. Also, we can only hope and/or dream to someday see a Yukon Territory glass come to light.
